PM PROPOSES JOINT PANEL TO PREVENT HARASSMENT OF MUSLIM YOUTHS
 
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has proposed a joint panel consisting of Muslim leaders and top intelligence and security officials to stop the harassment of young Muslims across India in the name of “fight against terrorism”. ONE ARRESTED FOR GUJARAT MASSACRE
 
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by the Supreme Court to inquire into cases of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat, has arrested a long time absconder in the infamous Gulbarg massacre. In its first arrest after it was formed on March 25, the team on April 19 nabbed Parbat Thakore from Banaskantha district. Thakore is accused of being involved in the Gulbarg massacre. IUML DEMANDS SEPARATE QUOTA FOR MUSLIMS
 
President Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) G.M. Banatwalla has welcomed the Supreme Court nod to 27% reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBCs), but expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of the “creamy layer” from the purview of the quota and also over its restriction to the graduation level.

RTI: NEW RULE RESTRICTS QUANTUM OF INFO
 

Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) recommended that the State Government amend the Karnataka Right to Information (RTI) Rules 2005 to restrict the quantum of information sought in a single application. This was discovered by Y.G. Muralidharan, consumer rights activist, who evoked the RTI Act only to receive this startling piece of information. JAIN COMMUNITY DEMANDS MINORITY STATUS
 
The Jain community has raised the pitch for minority status on par with the Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs, Muslims and Parsis, listed as notified minority groups under the Delhi Minorities Commission Act, 1999, reports said on April 20.
