Lawyers for the US Department of Justice defended the six-year detention of Huzaifa Parhat, a Chinese Uighur Muslim, at Guantanamo Bay in oral arguments before the US Court of Appeals. AL-AZHAR BRANCH IN MALAYSIA
 

Al-Azhar University opened a branch campus at the Yayasan Sofa Negeri Sembilan Complex, near Kampung Bukit Sembilan in Malaysia. The establishment of the branch campus outside the Middle East also marked the changing of the Al-Azhar mindset in its history of over 1,000 years since the beginning of its foundation during the reign of the Fatimiyyah dynasty. FLOATING DESALINATION PLANT IN JEDDAH
 

Jeddah’s water shortage problem would be solved temporarily with the arrival of a floating desalination plant at its shores. Abdullah Ahmed Bajunaid, CEO of Bawarij International, said the plant would have a capacity to supply 50,000 cubic meters of water daily. SAUDI NON-OIL EXPORTS INCREASE
 
The Saudi Department of General Statistics and Information said in its report that the total value of the Kingdom’s imports last year increased by 29 per cent to SAR338.088bn compared to SAR261.402bn in 2006. The weight of imports rose by seven per cent to 50,181 tonnes compared to 46,736 tonnes in the previous year.
