It is highly distressing and unfortunate that serial bomb blasts in Bangalore which took two lives reappeared with greater furry and destruction and claimed more than 45 lives in Ahmedabad. They show the emptiness of the government claims that our security agencies are well equipped to deal with any security problem and to protect the life and limb of common people. It is high time our government thoroughly revamped intelligence gathering system. Reoccurrence of such terrorist acts will result in hampering the progress of resurgent India and our dreams of becoming an economic and political power will remain unrealized.
Another painful result of these blasts is the heightening of communal tensions and prejudices. They sharpen the communal divide which is a very sad but prominent aspect of our social life. Communal elements, especially the principal communal party, which are always out to fish in the troubled waters, are greatly benefited from such incidents.
It should be appreciated that the common citizens understand the disguise of elements that are behind such heinous acts of terrorism and have been refusing to play in their hands. Now they are wiser after being sadder. This phenomenon was observed after Jaipur blasts and can be seen in Ahmedabad also which has a long history of communal conflicts and even state abetted genocide and pogrom.
It has been reported that most of the blasts in Ahmedabad occurred in Muslim majority areas. It is good that the state government took all necessary steps to avoid any communal conflict and even called Rapid Action force to control the situation. The two major communities, Hindus and Muslims, have joined hands to defuse the tension and help the victims.
It is important that our media must play a more responsible role and desist from sensationalizing the issue. Irresponsible speculation does not help in improving the situation.
It is also a must that our intelligence agencies must do their work in professional and honest manner and refuse to play in the hands of politicians. No delay should be done in apprehending the criminals who play with the lives of people.
Every time such incidents occur poor Muslims are made the scapegoats. This increases the level of bitterness and aberrations in the community and results in more anti-Muslim feelings in the majority community.
The police is still clueless about Jaipur blasts and same is the case of Hyderabad blasts of last year. Same can be said about the train blasts of Mumbai. The question is how long we have to face death and destruction and suspicion and hatred because of inefficient investigation machinery?
