STAY ON TRIBUNAL'S ORDER TO LIFT BAN ON SIMI IS SHOCKING: JIH

Mr Nusrat Ali, Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Hind described the government’s hastily approaching to Supreme Court for staying Delhi High Court Tribunal’s ruling that had lifted the ban on the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as ‘shocking’ and ‘disheartening’, a JIH statement said on August 6.

Expressing surprise over the government’s deplorable attitude to stay tribunal’s order, Mr Nusrat Ali pointed out, “After the independence, a number of critical occasions came, when the government by taking ‘swift actions’ could have saved minorities’ rights and could provide them justice, but sadly on such occasions the government did not take any positive or constructive action. At present while minorities are the worst victims of atrocities and deprivations, the government is showing such ‘painful’ swiftness.”  

The Jamaat leader pinned his hope on the apex court when he said, “As Supreme Court has delivered a number of times excellent decisions in the past about the rights and protection of minorities, in this case too the court would foil the government’s ‘unjust plan’ to meet the requirement of justice.”

In an earlier statement the JIH welcomed the tribunal’s verdict of lifting ban on SIMI.
