Capital Punishment for Bride-burning
 
The Supreme Court, while refusing to grant bail to Mahendra Kumar Gulati – the convict in a bride-burning case, observed that those burning women to death for dowry should be hanged. In view of the fact that hundreds of innocent women are harassed and eventually burnt to death for dowry by husbands and in-laws, the Apex Court order of death punishment for such criminals will act as a deterrent to others.

It is heartening to know that a reputed Tamil poet, Mr. Kavikko Abdur Rahman has been elected unanimously Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board which I think will be welcomed by all. It is perhaps for the first time that a literary figure who has good Islamic knowledge and urge for community services has become the head of the board.

President Obama’s Cairo speech was remarkably honest and straightforward. It was a mighty fine piece of oratory with depth and insight from an outstanding mind. The speech was so thoughtful and impressive that I wish it to resonate across the globe.
