GREEN TRIBUNAL BILL INTRODUCED IN LOK SABHA

The UnionGovernment on July 31 introduced National Green Tribunal Bill in Lok Sabha providing for specialised environment courts to deal with all civil matters related to environment. “The Bill will now go to the standing committee and is expected to be passed in November when the winter session of the Parliament is likely to be convened. It is for the first time that such a Tribunal will be in place to deal with issues related to air and water pollution, environment protection, forest conservation and maintaining bio-diversity.” Environment and forests Minister Jairam Ramesh said. Once the Tribunal comes into existence, the National Environment Tribunal Act 1995 and National Environment Appellate Authority Act, 1997will be repealed.
