ABU DHABI TO CRACK DOWN ON BUILDINGS

The Municipal Affairs Department in Abu Dhabi plans to launch a number of intensive crackdowns aimed at fighting the haphazard accommodation across the emirate said Rashid Mubarak Al Hajri, Head of the department. Al Hajri’s statement was in response to statistics released by the Municipal Affairs Department on previous inspection visits to erring buildings that are haphazardly occupied. According to Al Hajri, one campaign issued as many as 635 warnings to commercial and residential buildings in Abu Dhabi East. Of these, a total of 337 warnings were issued to residential buildings, 279 warnings to commercial facilities and 19 warnings to storehouses. A total of 462 warnings were issued in Abu Dhabi West: 391 warnings were residential and other 71 were commercial. As for the violations booked during the campaign to check out safety standards, 18 warnings were issued to commercial buildings, 12 to commercial outlets and some 150 warnings to residential villas.
