Re-open AMU with Immediate Effect: SIO
 
Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) expressed deep condolences over the murder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Shahnawaz Alam and expressed concern over the increasing unrest in the campus. SIO demanded that there must be a high level investigation of this murder with three months timeframe, and reopen the university with immediate effect. The organisation has also offered to the authorities to help bring peace and tranquillity in campus.

As AMU was preparing to welcome Governor of Uttar Pradesh B.L. Joshi for the inauguration of Centre of Excellence in Material Sciences and a hostel for Academic Staff College, there were moves to nullify the efforts too. The murder of a student, Shahnawaz Alam in a hotel near the railway station threw the university into turmoil once again after two years of peace.
