Ruchika Case: More Requires to be Done

Readers Pulse

At a time when those getting advantage of loopholes in legal system and face-value of lawyers always talk about ‘media-trial’ to affect court-judgements, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily has praised, rightly too, media for its watchdog-role in bringing injustice done earlier in infamous Ruchika Girotra case to limelight to finally get the former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore behind the bars. But much more, that too at a supersonic speed, is required to be done to prevent future such cases. Modification and reforms in legal provisions should be fast rather than usual hanging for years.
But even more important is to fix accountability for lapses on former or existing political rulers too. Several former Chief Ministers and Home Ministers in Haryana are equally guilty to assist, patronise and shield the main culprit SPS Rathore by not assenting action against him at various stages of the Ruchika case. Rather these political rulers promoted the tainted police-officer apart from decorating him from police-medal.
FIRs should also be lodged against all such former Chief Ministers, Home Ministers who are found guilty of not approving action against SPS Rathore and/or promoting him to other posts. Haryana government should bring a white-paper to expose black deeds of such former Chief Ministers and Home Ministers of the state. It becomes necessary because some of such political rulers are claiming otherwise than being highlighted in media.
