AMBUR INDUSTRIALIST M. RAFEEQUE AHMED GETS PADMA SHRI

The Chairman of the Farida Group, Mr. M. Rafeeque Ahmed of Ambur, Tamil Nadu, is one of the eight Muslim recipients of Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, this year. Mr. Ahmed made his debut in the leather industry in 1963, under the direction of his father M. Abdul Majid Sahib. Later on he took full charge of the firm Farida Prime Tanners, established by his father. After the demise of his father in 1965, he modified the conventional tannery equipping with latest, modern and sophisticated machines. He captured the overseas market exactly at a time, where pollution of tanneries was a great question abroad.
