DARUL ULOOM STUDENT BEATEN TO DEATH, OTHERS TORTURED BY POLICE

Inside India

Yet another incident of police brutality came to surface. And this time again, Muslims remain at the receiving end of police barbarism. The shocking part of the story is that the incident occurred during the Ramadhan, and the matter took around two months to come into light.

The incident happened on July 20, when four students of Darul Uloom Deoband, were going to their hometown to celebrate Eid. The four students, Hafiz Abdullah, Saleemullah, Maftooh Alam and Shaheed Ahmad, boarded the Sampark Kranti Express. The 19-year old Abdullah had a minor exchange of words over the seat with the lady passenger, who in turn complained to the railway police. The police beat Abdullah mercilessly, such that he died. The police then detained other three students and took them to the Mughal Sarai police station, where they were treated inhumanely and were tortured.

The ruthless murder of Abdullah was shown as a natural death and his dead body was left at the Patna railway station. The government has neither announced any compensation nor has any step been taken to book the guilty officers. The father of the deceased, Maulana Mujeeruddin said the incident has been reported to the Minority Commission; however he is expecting justice only from Allah.
