Er. Mohammad Salim, Associate Professor and Head Department of Electronics and Communication, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, Rajasthan, has been awarded PhD. for his research work “Investigation on turbo codes for improving performance on wireless fading channels”. He completed this research work under the supervision of Prof. R.P. Yadav, Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan Technical University.
Er. Salim is also a renowned social activist known for his efforts to assure the rights of weaker sections and deprived classes, for creating awareness against social evils, for protecting human rights and strengthening the atmosphere of communal harmony and resolving conflicts. Er. Salim has been active in social field for the last 25 years. He served as state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Rajasthan for the last 16 years; presently he is one of the National Secretaries of the Jamaat.
The research work of Er. Salim would improve the future Fourth Generation (4G) mobile communication. He has suggested several improvements in turbo codes which are proposed to be used in Fourth Generation (4G) mobile system communication. He has established through his experimental and simulation results that the improved codes suggested by him would enable the video data transfer at much higher speed, to increase the bandwidth several times, to reduce the power requirement of the mobile handset resulting in reducing further the size of mobile handsets. The improvement suggested by him will also enable the error to reduce up to one thousand times due to noise, fading and high speed of mobile users.
The research work of Er. Salim has been evaluated by renowned scientists of world’s renowned university FAMU-FSU (Florida State University Tallahalli, Florida USA) and IIT Delhi. These renowned scientists have appreciated the original contributions made by Er. Salim.
He started this research in 2004 and has published more than 20 research papers in international and national journals and conferences. The Union Ministry of HRD also provided financial assistance of `8.5 lakh to support R&D project to carry out this research. Er. Salim has been serving MNIT as faculty in Electronics & Communication Engineering for the last 27 years. He obtained B.E. degree with honours in 1983 and obtained M.Tech. Degree in Communication Systems from IIT Kanpur. In 1995 he visited Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield U.K. Under UK-INDIA, REC project for eight months; during this period he worked with a research group working on developing “under water survey robot”. Er. Salim designed control circuit for this robot.
Er. Salim has supervised more than 40 M.Tech. theses till now. He is committed to carry out this research further with his research team. Presently he is also working to establish a highly modern and state-of-art research Laboratory “RF Design and Research lab” as a centre of excellence in the department. He has set the target to establish this lab by the end of this year.
