Moral Degeneration Disturbing Trends

Editorial

India, the emerging super power, is on the moral downslide. It is increasingly becoming apparent through crime reports especially regarding sexual crimes and crimes against women.

Just two days ago a 14-year old 9th Class girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The heinous crime was facilitated by none other than her own class fellow. To add insult to injury, the rapists made a video film of the crime and threatened to put the video on the internet. The poor girl, who belongs to a powerful family of a former MLA, could not cope with the infamy and hanged herself to death.

Some days ago, in a Muslim town near Amroha three criminal-minded Muslim boys befriended a local girl. They made a pornographic film of her and put it on the internet. Someone in a foreign country recognised the girl and reported the matter to concerned people. Police has taken action against the culprits.

Such incidents are becoming common. Stringent action is called for against the culprits. Nobody should be allowed to play with the honour and dignity of our girls.

Some people, even a section of media, are shamelessly supporting homosexual relations. They are for adopting the western concept of allowing adult consensual sex.

An irresponsible section of media is openly publishing pornographic material. Even respectable newspapers have thrown to wind all norms of decency and have a permanent feature with explicit stories of sexual encounters and semi-nude pictures. This pornographic material is playing havoc with the raw sentiments of teenagers and youths. This is promoting sexual violence among them.

Only last month, a widely read popular newsweekly, under the caption “Love and murder in Bhopal” reproduced verbatim the shameful and dirty details of sexual intimacy between the murder accused and an MLA. These pornographic details have no relevance with the murder story. Clearly these details are meant for arousing the raw sex sentiments in the youth thereby selling more copies. It is extremely unfortunate and condemnable.

More respectable behaviour is rightly expected from our media. Media should desist from playing havoc with the raw sentiments of youth. If our youth, both men and women, are not guided properly to control themselves then laws and legal intervention will not save them and us from total moral destruction. It is time all well-wishers of society joined hands to fight the forces of immorality, debauchery and promiscuity. No nation in human history is known to have survived the attack of these evil forces.
