Outraged at the reinstatement of suspended Bharatpur Collector Krishna Kunal, Muslim groups demanded a “fair and impartial” probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the Sep 14, 2011, police firing at a mosque in Gopalgarh, Rajasthan in which 10 persons were killed. Tahaffuz-e-Auqaf Committee, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Irada Society and the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) said the CBI’s “clean chit” for the then Bharatpur Collector and Superintendent of Police and Mr. Kunal’s reinstatement following a stay granted by the Central Administrative Tribunal were “correlated incidents” that had denied justice to victims. “The guilty officer’s reinstatement at a convenient juncture proves that the Government had deliberately left a legal loophole for his advantage,” said Salim Engineer, National Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
