Time and again the Congress Party is seen pitted with succession issue to a great extent. Manmohan Singh, who became PM eight years ago, simply turned out by chance as Rahul was not prepared to take the reign in the hands. The latest fiasco over Salman Khurshid’s ‘direction’ comment has clearly indicated that not Singh but it is the Congress itself which can be tagged as the actual ‘underachiever’. If you look at the story some three years ago, Rahul Gandhi was termed as the modern day Chanakya of politics. He was also referred to as “the quiet revolutionary”, the man who was on a mission to “democratise” the dynasty-obsessed Congress and “drive it to a new tomorrow”. However, in the past three years, the tide has turned out against Rahul, that now even Congressmen are beginning to acknowledge his failings, going by Khurshid’s brutally honest assessment of him. The Congress party’s monopoly was clearly over long ago and as of now Rahul Gandhi too has proved out to be a poor brand ambassador for the political dynasty.
