Welfare Party Asks Assam CM to step down, or else Congress to Sack Him

Communal Violence

Welfare Party of India asked Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to step down on moral grounds and if he not willing, the Congress leadership should remove him from the chief ministership as he has totally failed to control the communal violence in Kokrajhar district and adjoining areas that took the lives of around 60 people, swallowed more than 400 villages, caused properties worth crores destroyed and lakhs of people displaced. It is nothing but cruel that the Chief Minister put the entire blame on media and cites lame justification for the unpardonable delay in despatching law enforcing personnel to the riot-hit areas.

Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, General Secretary of the party, in a statement on July 27, made it clear that no meaningful rehabilitation and unbiased enquiry will take place under Gogoi. He also demanded the Centre to hand over the entire affected areas to the military till complete rehabilitation is ensured.

The other demands the party include release of 15 lakh rupees each to the next kin of deceased and to give employment to a family member of the victim family. He also demanded a judicial enquiry into the root-cause of the riot and make its report available within three months. The party also asked the centre and state governments and civil society to initiate concrete healing process at the earliest to restore communal harmony.
