OIC leads global campaign to protect Rohingya Muslims

Islam, mainly of the Sunni sect, is practised by 4 per cent of the population of Burma, according to the government census. However, according to the US State Department’s 2006 International religious freedom report, official statistics underestimates the non-Buddhist population which could be as high as 30 per cent. Act Now for Burmese Muslims! MCB, ICNA Call on UK and Other Governments to Act
 

The Muslim Council (MCB) has called for urgent action to halt killings, rapes and expulsions being carried out in western Burma against ethnic Rohingya (Muslim) Burmese citizens.

In a statement on July 26, MCB said: “We strongly condemn these attacks against the Rohingya in Burma and call on the British government, as well as other regional partners, to bring the matter to the United Nations’ urgent attention,” said MCB secretary general, Farooq Murad.
