CBI AVOIDS QUESTIONING SENIOR OFFICIALS IN SADIQ JAMAL FAKE ENCOUNTER

Inside India

Central Bureau of Investigation avoids questioning two senior officials in secret services who were allegedly involved in the fake encounter of Sadiq Jamal in Gujarat in 2003. Government sources said that one of them allegedly opened fire targeting Sadiq Jamal while another helped him by providing information and handling the situation.

It is believed that the order to encounter Sadiq Jamal was received from ‘high command’ and transferred to the encounter cell of crime branch. CBI, which is looking into the case, has entered its first charge sheet as of now.

Sadiq Jamal was allegedly killed in a fake encounter on 13 January, 2003 in Gujarat. The High Court of Gujarat has ordered a CBI investigation into the matter in 2011 based on the plea of victim’s brother demanding the same. The bureau has arrested five senior police officials so far while it has nominated 8 others including deputy superintend of police, Tarun Barut, in its charge sheet.
