PANCHAYAT BANS WESTERN UNIFORM IN BIHAR

Inside India

In the recent wake of Delhi gang rape, the Matha panchayat in Aurangabad district of Bihar has banned western uniforms like jeans and mini-skirts in the schools and mandated traditional uniform. It banned the use of multimedia cell phone in the schools as well. Mr. Omkar Nath Sigh, husband of Mukhiya, said Panchyat has taken the decision because the villagers felt the need for measures to prevent such incidents in rural areas. The rule applied to both boys and girls. Mr. Singh said, “Inappropriate dress vitiates the social environment. We want to send a message to the Government of India that we should stay within the limits of Indian culture.”

Meanwhile, in a similar decision, Sisra Kalan Panchyat of Kisanganj, Bihar, has banned the use of mobile phones and wearing short dresses by school and college girls. Sarpanch Vijay Kant Kuanr said that the decision has been taken to curb crimes against women.
