IYAD MADANI LIKELY TO BE NEXT OIC SEC-GEN

Muslim World

Iyad Madani, former Saudi minister of Haj and Information, is likely to be appointed the next secretary-general of the 56-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. “The three African candidates have withdrawn their nominations. Saudi Arabia’s candidate Madani remains the only one to win the position,” said Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Amr Ramadan. If his appointment is confirmed by the OIC leaders during their Feb. 6-7 summit in Cairo, Madani will become the 10th secretary-general of the Jeddah-based organization.
