MALICIOUS ATTEMPT TO IMPLICATE BJI, SHIBIR ACTIVISTS

Muslim World

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has denied the involvement of its activists and those of its students wing, Islami Chatra Shibir in any sort of violence and vandalism in the country. Some newspapers including The Daily Star and Daily Prothom Alo published reports that “Jamaat and Shibir attacked Hindu and Buddhist temples and houses”. However the BJI central executive committee member, Mr. Hamidur Rahman Azad, who is also member of the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament), in a statement on 1 March, called it a malicious attempt “to damage our reputation” and create “further opportunities to bring criminal charges against our leaders and activists”.

“I strongly protest the baseless reports published by the Daily Star, the Daily Prothom Alo and a few other media. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chatra Shibir have no involvement in these attacks. The accusations brought by the Daily Star and Prothom Alo are utterly false. This is another malicious attempt to damage our reputation and create further opportunities to bring criminal charges against our leaders and activists,” Mr. Azad said.

“To divert the attention from the protests of people against the atheist bloggers, the members of the ruling party attacked Hindu and Buddhist temples and houses. A few pro-government newspapers and media are spreading propaganda against Jamaat and Shibir. In the past they attacked Hindus and took their lands. But all of their conspiracies failed. They will fail this time as well,” he added.
