INTERIM PROTECTION FOR WHISTLE-BLOWERS IN MAHARASHTRA

Inside India

The government of Maharashtra, on 4 March, announced to provide free of cost interim security for whistle-blowers. The decision came after the Bombay High Court, while hearing the case of Satish Sethhi, an RTI activist based in Pune who was murdered by land mafias in 2010 after exposing several land scams in the city, pulled up the government for not providing necessary protection for the activists. The court had further ordered to frame a policy to ensure protection and safety to the whistle-blowers and asked the government to provide interim protection for activists facing life threats.
