NO 'RTI' ON ILLEGAL ARRESTS OF MUSLIMS IN UP

The government of Uttar Pradesh has refused to furnish any detail about illegal arrests of Muslims in the state under POTA and UAPA. Al Falah Trust moved an application recently seeking information about the number of Muslims arrested over terror charges in last four years, whether or not their charge-sheet prepared and which jail they are languishing in recently. The applicant has also wished to know the development of the cases of all terror accused and the names of those acquitted of the same. But the government refused to share any detail on the subject as it might disturb law and order situation, reported Urdu daily Inquilab.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission on 11 March served notice to the Inspector General of Police, UP, regarding fake encounter of a Haryana boy, Shabbir Ahmad, on 20 February in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. It is pertaining to note here that the police, after killing Shabbir, approached the Sarpanch, Mumtaz Ali, and admitted before him having killed Shabbir and 16 others in different staged encounters
