MAKE SPEECHES OF JINNAH PUBLIC: CIC

Inside India

The Central Information Commissioner has asked the government to evaluate two speeches made by Mohammad Ali Jinnah during pre-Independence era that are stored in the archives of All India Radio and explain the reasons for withholding them if it intends to do so. Prasar Bharati had earlier declined the RTI application of SC Agrawal seeking information in this regard saying it would affect the country’s relationship with Pakistan. CIC Satyananda Mishra said keeping everything related to Pakistan secret was a “regressive stand”. Adding that more than 60 years after the Independence, time had come to decide if information relating to pre-Independence period should be made available to public since it would no longer be as sensitive as it once had been.
