INDIA MIGHT LOSE 40,000 HAJ SEATS THIS YEAR

Inside India

The government of Saudi Arabia has decided to reduce the number of Haj pilgrims by 20 per cent and thus the quota of Indian pilgrims has been slashed by 40,000 seats. “Given the fact that the process of Haj pilgrimage has already started, we have requested the Saudi authorities both in Delhi and Riyadh to reconsider their decision taking into account the advanced stage of preparations,” said Syed Akbaruddin, the spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi. Last year, Indian Haj quota was 1,76,000 and New Delhi had requested for an additional 10,000 seats.
