Are We Moving towards Sexual Anarchy?

Editorial

The recent judgement of Madras High Court supporting live-in relationship and legalising premarital sex has sent shockwaves throughout the whole country.

Sex both creates and destroys. It is the mode through which life is created, whether animal or human, and at the same time it has been responsible for destruction of societies and civilizations when it was abused or profaned. India had certain moral standards with regard to sexual relations, and Islam has made a significant contribution towards this. Marriage was always respected as a social and moral bonding without which sex was decried and prohibited. Unfortunately, blind imitation of western society, pursuit of materialism, and influence of hedonism plus consumerism and commercialisation of life have derailed our society to a great extent. Steady increase in crimes against women and soaring number of molestation and rapes are indication of this dangerous moral disease.

We require a thorough overhaul of our society and a strong dose of morality and religion to stop the society from destruction. In this regard our judiciary has to play a vital role as an important guardian of law and order and society.

It is a matter of great concern that some judges who are influenced by the decadent western thoughts are undoing the time-tested moral principles. One such judgement was about legalising homosexuality. The 17 June Madras High Court judgement is of far reaching destructive consequences, for it says that if any unmarried couple of the right legal age “indulges in sexual gratification”, this would be considered a valid marriage and they could be termed “husband and wife”. This amounts to opening the floodgates of debauchery, legalising premarital sex and granting it legal protection. We are sure that the Supreme Court will reverse this judgement and Indian, especially Muslim, conscience will never accept it. It is preposterous and twisted logic to say that this immoral and unregistered relationship is equal to “acquiring the freedom of choice guaranteed by our Constitution”. Opinion makers, guardians of society’s morality and especially the Muslims have strongly reacted to this judgement, registered their strong resentment and resolved to oppose it tooth and nail. O Allah! Save the country from moral degeneration and sexual anarchy.
