WELFARE PARTY DEMANDS CENTRE PUBLISH A WHITE PAPER ON PARLIAMENT ATTACK, 26/11

Inside India

The Welfare Party on 15 July asked the Centre to come clean on the Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai carnage following claims by a former home ministry official who quoted Gujarat cadre IPS officer Satish Chandra Verma as saying that these terror attacks were “orchestrated” by the government. Urging the Centre to reveal details about the attacks, Welfare Party general secretary S Q R Ilyas recounted an instance when a Union minister told a delegation of the Majlis-e-Mushawarat, an umbrella body of Muslim organisations, that the Parliament attack was “fake and a drama”.

“The latest revelations have not only raised a lot of questions but also put the government in a defensive and doubtful position,” Ilyas said. After these terror attacks, many explanations by the Centre, the Maharashtra government and various investigating agencies had raised several questions, he said. “As the incidents concerned the nation’s security, in spite of many weak points, the stand of the Union government and of intelligence agencies acquired almost wide acceptance,” Ilyas said. He demanded the Centre appoint a judicial commission to investigate all terror-related cases and publish a white paper.
