SIO AP DEMANDS IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION OF RTE

Inside India

Andhra Pradesh chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) staged a protest before Rajiv Vidya Mission State Office followed by a huge rally complaining that the Right to Education (RTE) Act was not being implemented in rural areas and demanded that steps be taken to increase the teacher-pupil ratio along with strengthening of school infrastructure. In a memorandum submitted to Rajiv Vidya Mission project director, V Usha Rani, SIO demanded that the government strictly implement the RTE Act by constituting an umbrella body which would bring about better coordination between various departments and agencies.

“The agencies include HRD ministry, labour department and women and child welfare department, among others. There is also a conflict between child labour law and the RTE Act despite the fact that they deal with similar issues,” SIO Public Relations Secretary Abrar Ali said. He added that Government should continue to employ the services of Vidya volunteers (VV) till the regular teachers are appointed by means of district selection committee (DSC).
