QARADAWI SPEAKS AGAINST SUICIDE OPERATIONS TARGETING CIVILIANS

Renowned Islamic scholar Dr Yousuf Al Qaradawi has called the militant groups in the Islamic world to re-examine their concept of 'Jihad' and open a dialogue with Muslims scholars. He was speaking at a symposium on Human Rights in Islam organised by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) recently at Doha Sheraton.

“There is no justification for the suicide operation in Iraq where civilians are being killed, as Iraq has many developed weapons to fight the enemy. This ... More

EGYPT ANCHORWOMEN BATTLE FOR HIJAB

The last four years in the lives of TV presenters Hala El Malki and Ghada El Tawil have been a continuous struggle brought about by their employers' refusal to implement two court verdicts. The bill will go to the Senate for voting, where it is expected to pass. The way-out left for Bush is to veto the bill. This is going to ... More

KUWAITIS NOT WILLING TO WRITE OFF IRAQ'S OLD DEBT

Lingering bitterness from the 1990 Iraqi invasion and distrust of today's government of Nouri Al Maliki are making it nearly impossible to convince Kuwaitis and their lawmakers to write off most of the US$15 billion of Iraq's debt.

But the struggling Iraqi premier was hoping to do just that as he ended a two-day visit to this small oil-rich state, with appeals to Kuwaiti leaders and statements to editors of local dailies that he hoped their parliament was going to be “ge... More

US DISCRIMINATIONS AGAINST MUSLIMS

The US is institutionalising discrimination against immigrants perceived to be Muslims, illegally delaying their citizenship applications, which is breaking families and disenfranchising entire communities, the Centre for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) documented in a report.

“In the post-September 11, 2001 environment, the category of 'terrorist' has emerged as a racialised construct in which men perceived to be Muslim, Arab, Middle Eastern, or South Asian are ... More
