All-India Urdu Education Committee founder president Md. Jaleel Pasha announced in a press statement that a 2-day World Urdu Conference is being organised on the 30th & 31st of July, 2007. Among the notables invited to the conference are S Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister for Urban Development, Md Ali Shabbir, Minister for Minority Welfare, AP, Dr Ehtesham Husain, VC, Hyderabad University, Prof Iqbal Ahmed, Pro-VC, MANUU, Gopichand Narang, Chairman, Sahitya Academy, Prof Ali Javed, Director, NCPUL, Syed Muzaffar Husain, Chief City Planner, GHMC. More than 1000 intellectuals and scholars, professors, teachers, leaders of different organisations and lovers of Urdu will be attending the conference. The agenda of discussion includes prominent issues ranging from the proposal to formalise Urdu as the second language, setting up an Urdu university in North India, setting up Urdu schools and kendravidyalayas, national policies for Urdu to officiating Maulana Azad’s birthday as National Education Day. Students and teachers from all over the state will be awarded medals and certificates of honour for exemplary achievements and services in the area of Urdu.
