Expressing shock at the news reports that a number of Muslims have been picked up by the police after the August 25 twin blasts, Indian Muslim Council-USA demanded justification on the "abrupt arrests."

Acting on a petition submitted by Shahi Imam of Ludhiana and Ameer Majlis Ahrar-i-Islam Maulana Habeebur Rahman Thani Ludhianavi, Minister for Jails, Punjab, Hira Singh Gabria has assured that special arrangements will be made for Muslim jail inmates all through the holy month of Ramadhan.

SC PROVIDES MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE TO MUSLIM WOMEN
 

The Supreme Court of India has passed an order to provide maintenance allowance to Muslim women from their husbands under Section 125. The Apex Court in its June 5, 2007 judgement in Iqbal Bano Vs. State of Uttar Pradesh and others has held as follows:

NOW DIRECT HAJ FLIGHTS FROM VARANASI
 

Haj pilgrims from eastern Uttar Pradesh will now be able to fly to Saudi Arabia directly from Varanasi. A decision to this effect was taken by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry on a demand by the Uttar Pradesh government. Lucknow was the first city in the state to start direct Haj flights a few years ago.

"Varanasi would be the second embarking point in the state for 2007 Haj pilgrims," state Haj Committee chief Naseemuddin Siddiqui told presspersons on September 8.

Former Ameer Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith and founder member and vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad Nadwi breathed his last in Mumbai on September 9. He was 78.
