MAULANA MUKHTAR AHMAD NADWI IS NO MORE

Former Ameer Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith and founder member and vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad Nadwi breathed his last in Mumbai on September 9. He was 78.

Born in 1930 in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, Mukhtar Ahmad emerged as one of the prominent Salafi scholars in India. After completing his education from different educational institutions, he was appointed Imam and Khateeb at Jama Masjid Ahle Hadith Kolkata. Later he was associated with Akhbar Ahle Hadith published from Delhi.

He rendered his invaluable services to the community as Naib Ameer Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith from 1979 to 1989, then as Acting Ameer from 1989 to 1990, and finally as Ameer from 1990 to 1997.

Jamiat’s Ameer Hafiz Muhammad Yahya Dehlavi and general secretary Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi and other functionaries of the organisation have expressed their deep sense of sadness at the demise of Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad, and prayed to Allah for his forgiveness.

Maulana Nadwi was associated with Awam Welfare Association, an organisation committed to the educational upliftment of Muslim children in Bandra slums of Mumbai.

He edited and published Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shayba from his publishing house Dar-ul-Salafiya.
