Mufti Mushtaq Tijarvi awarded Ph.D. on Tasawwuf
 
Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, awarded Mufti Mohd. Mushtaq Tijarvi Ph.D. degree on his research work “Shaikh Junaid Baghdadi aur Unka Tasawwuf”.
Mufti Mushtaq, who has been rendering his services as Senior Lecturer at Islamic Academy, New Delhi, completed his work on this great Sufi scholar and his contribution to the development of Sufism, under the supervision of Professor Akhtarul Wasey of Department of Islamic Studies of the Jamia.

TABLE JUSTICE RANGANATH PANEL REPORT: IUML
 
Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) president G.M. Banatwalla has called upon the Union Government to table Justice Ranganath Misra Commission Report in the coming Budget Session of Parliament and provide reservation for Muslims.
“It is almost one year since Justice Ranganath Misra Commission Report was submitted to the Government but the Government is yet to make it public,” Banatwalla lamented while addressing the presspersons at Amravati on February 1.

ORISSA MULLS 27% JOB QUOTA FOR OBCs
 
The Orissa government has announced that a special legislation will be brought in the coming Budget Session to ensure 27 per cent reservation in government jobs for other backward classes (OBCs). The government said steps will be taken to improve the provisions for OBCs in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution after the bill is passed in the Assembly.
Reservation of 11.25 per cent for OBCs will be implemented as an interim measure and 15.75 per cent of jobs will be kept vacant.... More
 
 
 
CHILDREN MARCH AGAINST FARMERS' SUICIDE, SEZ
 
A children protest rally was organised against farmers' suicide by Lokraj Sangathan in cooperation with other organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from Mandi House to Agricultural Ministry House in the Capital.
Around 300 school children along with widows and orphans of suicide farmers participated in the rally, opposing Government policies of SEZ and lands and demanding writing farmers’ debts off.

The Supreme Court has once again asserted that the gravity of an offence shall be the sole criteria for determining the quantum of punishment in heinous crimes and any leniency given to the accused on the basis of his or the victim’s social status would be a travesty of justice. NHSC DEMANDS RESERVATION FOR DALIT CONVERTS
 
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes demanded to provide reservation for the Dalits who convert to Islam or Christianity. The Commission has sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Social Justice and Development. A senior member of the Commission, Mahendra Bodha said, “We have sent our recommendations to the Ministry of Social Justice and hoping the fruitful decision would be soon taken by the government.”

AP IMPLEMENTS 4% QUOTA FOR MUSLIMS
 
The Government of Andhra Pradesh on February 2 started recruiting Muslims under 4 per cent reservation quota. This was one of the party’s election promises. The first to benefit from the reservation are 10 assistant engineers, including three women.
